The 20th IEEE Symposium on Fusion Engineering will be held Oct 14 – 17 in San Diego California at the Bahia Resort Hotel on Mission Bay. The Symposium is dedicated to the scientific, technological and engineering issues of fusion energy research and is a mixture of oral presentations and poster sessions allowing for extensive interactions among the participants.

Submissions are requested in all areas of fusion engineering, including:  

  • Experimental devices
  • New device studies and reactor studies
  • Engineering of advanced concepts
  • Divertors and plasma facing components
  • Vacuum vessels, blankets, and shields
  • Plasma materials interactions
  • Diagnostics and data acquisition
  • Safety and environmental engineering
  • Materials Assembly, fabrication, and maintenance
  • Heating and current drive
  • Power systems
  • Plasma control systems
  • Magnet engineering
  • Electromagnetics and electromechanics

Suggestions for plenary or invited papers can be sent to either the General Chairman or Technical Program Chairman.

Preparing Abstracts

Abstracts should be prepared in accordance with the template shown at the 20th SOFE website. Abstracts may be submitted via the web (preferred), by e-mail to sofe03@fusion.gat.com ,  the Conference Coordinator, Kristin Kidney or by mail:

The deadline for submission of abstracts is April 30, 2003. If you have difficulty accessing the instructions from the web site, please contact the Conference Coordinator and these instructions will be mailed or e-mailed to you. Authors will be notified of acceptance in June. Instructions for preparation of the manuscript will be sent with the acceptance notification.

ORAL SESSIONS: Authors of invited papers will be allowed a total of 30 minutes (25 for presentation, 5 for discussion) for their oral presentations. Authors of selected contributed papers will be allowed 20 minutes (15 for presentation, 5 for discussion). Paper selection is the responsibility of the Technical Program Committee.

POSTER SESSION: Poster sessions will be offered each afternoon of the conference. The Technical Program Committee reserves the right to assign papers to either poster or oral sessions to ensure an optimum program.
